Overview

Artifactor ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps you export conversations from AI platforms like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Grok into clean, formatted documents.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (spoiler: almost none) and how we handle it.

Data We Collect

Artifactor offers two export modes with different data handling.

Raw Export (Free tier):

  • The extension reads the conversation from the webpage you're viewing
  • All processing happens locally in your browser
  • The exported file is saved directly to your device
  • No data is sent to external servers

Smart Export (Starter/Pro tiers):

  • Your chat content is sent to our secure servers for AI-powered document generation
  • We process your content in real-time using the Claude API (Anthropic)
  • We do not permanently store your conversation data after processing
  • The structured document is returned to your browser
  • The exported file is saved directly to your device

Own API Key / Local LLM (Pro): When using your own API key, requests go directly to Anthropic. When using Ollama (local LLM), all processing stays on your machine.

Crash Reports

To help us fix bugs and improve Artifactor, we automatically collect anonymous crash reports when errors occur. This helps us identify and fix problems quickly.

What we collect:

  • Error message — What went wrong (e.g., "Cannot read property")
  • Stack trace — Where in our code the error occurred (sanitized)
  • Platform — Whether you were on Claude.ai or ChatGPT
  • Extension version — Which version you're using
  • Browser version — Your Chrome version for compatibility checks
  • Timestamp — When the error happened

What we NEVER collect:

  • Your conversation content
  • URLs you visit
  • Personal information (emails, IDs)
  • Authentication tokens

Opt-out: You can disable crash reports anytime in the extension settings. Click the Artifactor icon and toggle "Send crash reports" off.

Data We DO NOT Store

  • Your conversation content (processed in real-time, never stored)
  • Your browsing history
  • Cookies or tracking data
  • IP addresses
  • Device identifiers

Permissions

Artifactor requires the following browser permissions to function:

  • activeTab — To read the current page content when you click the export button
  • downloads — To save the exported file to your device
  • storage — To save your export preferences and account settings locally
  • identity — To authenticate your account via Google Sign-In

These permissions are used only when you actively interact with the extension. The extension does not access other tabs, browsing history, or unrelated data.

Third-Party Services

Artifactor integrates with the following third-party services:

  • Anthropic (Claude API) — Used by Smart Export to generate structured documents from your conversations. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy
  • Lemon Squeezy — Payment processing for subscriptions. We do not store your payment information.
  • Google OAuth — Used for account authentication. We only receive your email and name.

We do not use any analytics platforms, advertising networks, or tracking services.

Local Storage

The extension may store minimal settings locally in your browser (such as your export preferences). This data never leaves your device and can be cleared by removing the extension.

Children's Privacy

Artifactor is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
